The Luberon

The Luberon is a region of Provence sandwiched between the Dentelles and Mt.Ventoux in the North, the river Durance in the South and East with the Alpilles to the South West. The forrested hills of the Luberon and the countless scenic hilltop villages offer many options for superb road, trail or mountain biking. The varied range of cycling experiences and the charming villages make this area one of our favourites !

There is a complete circut of the Luberon called the Velo Loisir while a seperate southern Luberon bike trail is called the Pays d’Aigues. Both circuits are well marked and have signposts to show the clockwise or anticlockwise directions. This is an area of great beauty and history and, because of this, you will find that it can be heavily touristed. The Ochre towns of Roussillon and Rustel cater for bus loads of tourists and the hill top villages of Gordes, Menerbes and Goult attract way too many of the beautiful bus loving people. But…., when they have left the village for the next attraction on the list, you have the chance to see the real Luberon.

Places not to miss include ; Cavaillon, Apt, Saint-Saturnin- les- Apt, Forcalquier, Manosque.
